Bamidele Aturu, Market leader get Adeyemi College alumni association award

The Alumni association of Adeyemi College of Education (ACE) Ondo, has given award two eminent Nigerians. They are, late legal luminary and human rights activist, Bamidele Aturu and the Iyaloja of Ondo Kingdom, Chief (Mrs) Iwalola Adefemiwa.


Until his demise, Aturu an old student of the College and member of the Alumni association was also its representative in the Institution’s Governing Council.

The award presentation ceremony was held at the Institution’s Alumni Event Centre currently under construction in the institution. Speaking on the occasion, the Provost of the College, Prof. Olukoya Ogen, lauded the association for honouring one of their departed colleagues and the iyaloja of Ondo, Chief (Mrs) Iwalola. He described the late Aturu as a unique Nigerian and a good ambassador of the institution whose contributions would not be easily forgotten.
While stressing the importance of Alumni association to the development of an institution, the College helmsman said by partnering with Management of their alma mata, the vision and mission of their institutions would be achieved.


He acknowledge the various contributions made by the late social crusader to the development of the College and urged other members of the alumni association to emulate him. Prof. Ogen congratulated members of the Executive of the alumni association for embarking on the construction of a building in its name noting that the development would go a long way in adding values to the College.


Earlier in his address of welcome, the National President of the Alumni Association, Hon. (Dr.) Peter Sakariyau Orimoloye represented by Comrade Yemi Olugbamigbe, the National Public Relations Officer of the association, said the body was formed for the purpose of partnering with the College Management in its efforts at moving the institution forward. Orimiloya expressed happiness for the appointment of Prof. Olukoya Ogen, an alumnus of the institution as it Provost, describing it as one of the manifestation of good thing in the College.


While expressing the desire of members of the association for the restoration of the institution’s University status, that was put on hold by the Federal Government, Orimoloye called on all Old students of the institution home and abroad to rise up on the matter, by joining hands with the Provost for the actualization of the dreams. On the decision to confer a post humous award on the late Barrister Bamidele Aturu, the ACE Alumni Association President said the step was taken in appreciation of his (Atutu’s) contributions to the association.


The event which featured delivery of tributes in the memory of the later Aturu also involved notification of plan to institute a foundation in his name where students with the best graduating result in Physics in the Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE) and Degree programme would be given prizes. The high point of the ceremony was the presentation of the post humous award to the wife of the late Barrister Bamidele Aturu, Mrs. Bimpe Aturu and the Iyaloja of Ondo kingdom, Chief Mrs. Iwalola Adefemiwa.


The event was attended by many important dignitaries from all walks of life including one of the old students Dr. Jerrie Akindojutimi, Dr. Damian Ademulegun, Dr. Ademola Azeez and a visitor to the College from the University of Birmingham, Dr. Rebecca Jones to mention a few.
