Music is very powerful in society - College Provost

The Provost of Adeyemi College of Education (ACE) Ondo, Prof. Olukoya Ogen, has observed the importance of music, describing it as very powerful in society. Prof. Ogen made the statement in a speech delivered at the 2015 Christmas Carol held on Wednesday December 16, 2015 in the institution.

While expressing delight for his presence at the event, Prof. Ogen commended the Head of Music Department, staff and students of College for making the occasion colourful.
The Provost used the occasion to thank members of the College Community including Teaching and Non-teaching staff for their cooperation and support.  He reiterated his determination to continue to do his best in the task of taking the College to greater heights and placing it on the world map.

In a sermon delivered on the occasion by a clergyman, Pastor Johnson Falade, entitled: “Christmas, a time to exalt the Lord Jesus,” he highlighted the importance of Christmas and charged the congregation to look beyond the festivities associated with its celebration but reflect on the message and lesson learnt from circumstances surrounding the birth of Jesus Christ for which the day is dedicated. Pastor Falade, a lecturer in the Department of French in the College traced the origin of the celebration of Christmas and stated that it was a period that is used to replace lawlessness and celebration of Paganism adding that Christmas is also set aside as a day to exalt the personality of Jesus Christ.

According to the cleric, the celebration of Christmas should not be limited to merriment and purchase of items such as Christmas trees and cards or display of materialism rather it should be used to exalt Jesus Christ. “The Christmas period is the time to exalt Jesus above all gods, tradition, materialism, drinking and eating” he remarked.

The well attended event held at the Olusegun Obasanjo Auditorium featured renditions of congregation hymns, music interlude, bible readings and prayer for the College Community.
Important personalities from all walks of life who graced the occasion include College Registrar, Mr. Felix Aderinboye; Acting Librarian, Mr. R.A Awoyemi; Dean, student Affairs, Mr. Olaniyi Olaluwoye; Pastor Sola Gbayisemore; former Head of Department of History, ACE, Dr. D.Z Olupayimo, staff and Students to mention but few.
