Management fully committed to student welfare – Provost

The Provost of Adeyemi College of Education, Ondo Professor Olukoya Ogen on Thursday said his Management is fully committed to the welfare of students of the College.

The Provost in an opening remarks during the Inauguration of the 2016/2017 students’ Union Central Executive Council pledged that the Management would continue to do its best for the students of the College.

“We operate an open door policy, we will carry you along on any issues.  We want your ideas, come up with your ideas let us rub minds together”, he said.

The helms-man described the occasion as significant and commended the body that has been guiding the students to achieve smooth transition from one Student Union Executive to another.

He commended the outgoing Student Union President, Richard Ogunrotifa for outstanding performance during his tenure.  According to him, it has been recommended that Ogunrotifa should be given special commendation by the College Management Committee for maintaining peace, cordiality between the three arms that forms the student union (Executive, Judiciary and Legislature) and for being a man of integrity,  having presented a statement of account after his tenure.

The provost therefore urged the new President, Omosebi Oluwatobilola to emulate him and also adopt the Chairman, Committee of Deans and Dean, School of Science Dr. Folorunso Balogun as his father throughout his tenure.  He implored him to listen to his fatherly advice and take choices that would make him excel noting that any student of the College could excel anywhere in the world. 

He congratulated and thanked the Management team, the three Unions in the College for been supportive of his administration.

In his address, the Dean, Student Affairs, Mr. Olaniyi Olaluwoye inform the audience that the second Student Union E-voting election in the College took place on 23rd August, 2016. “It took place in an atmosphere devoid of rancor and bitterness. There was no chasing of voters with dangerous weapons of any kind.  I am therefore using this opportunity to appreciate the Provost and his creative management team for this novel approach,” he stated.

He appealed to the newly elected Student Union Government Executive not to see their officers as an opportunity in enrich themselves, “rather a call to service”.

“I charge you to always strive like the literary Ulysses who will always strive, seek and find therefore, strive to leave behind a memorable and indelible foot print on the sand of time”. He advice them to let accountability be their watchword and use their time judiciously. 

In his inaugural speech, Comrade Omosebi Oluwatobiloba thanked the College Provost and his Management team for making the occasion a success. He likewise thanked the electoral committee, outgoing Student Union officers and those who contested along with them for their show of sportsmanship and called for their support.

He pledged that the welfare of the students shall be his priority, saying, “we are ready to show due concern in agitating for proper welfare of students.  The welfarism includes: security and protecting the students within and outside campus by working hand in hand with the Management and security agencies within and outside the school.  We also have it in mind to work with the management to procure functioning public address system across all lecture theatres in order to ensure effective teaching and learning process.”

In his goodwill message, the chairman, Colleges of Education Academic Staff Union, Dr. Tope Oziegbe observed that the e-voting adopted by the College has brought credible people to student union and advice the new leaders not to equate unionism to radicalism.

He stressed the need for proper placing and putting their demands in proper perspective, approach the management when issues arises and do the right thing at the right time.

The Chairman, Senior Staff Union of College of Education in Nigeria, Mr. Jimoh Liasu and the Chairman, Non Academic Staff Union, Mr. Henry Akingbola also took turns to advice the newly inaugurated executives.

The Dean, School of Science, Dr. Folorunso Balogun in his goodwill message observed that the students of School of Science is more in number in Central Executive Council, therefore they cannot afford to fail nor disappoint their constituency. He challenged them to behave like scientist and deliver on their electoral promises.

Besides the presentation of certificate to the outgoing executives, the Provost also presented the union Bus to the newly Inaugurated Executive.
