Adeyemi College Provost bags Rotary Ambassador Award

The Provost of Adeyemi College of Education (ACE) Ondo, Prof. Olukoya Ogen, has been conferred with an Ambassador award by the Rotary Club International in an award presentation ceremony which took place on Thursday September 15, 2016 at the office of the Provost in the College.

Speaking before decorating the Provost with the award badge, the 2016 / 2017 District 9125 Governor of Rotary Club International, Rotarian Clement Adebisi Adegoke explained that the global humanitarian organisation’s decision to honour Prof. Ogen, was in recognition of his contributions to the growth of the club as well as the developments recorded by his administration since assumption of duty as the head of the institution.

Describing Rotary Club International as one of the foremost international humanitarian organisations that have shown great commitment to the eradication of polio in the world, Rotarian Adegoke stated that in its fight against the scourge, the club had spent over two billion dollars gotten from contributions received from its members across the world.

He dropped hint of plan by the organisation to embark on free medical outreach in Ondo City in no distant time and spoke on the move to invite 30 medical doctors from India who would perform free surgical operations on the people of the community who have health challenges that may require surgery.

The DG of the Rotary Club District 9125 listed other areas where the organisation has made useful contributions to the society including disease prevention, water and sanitation, economic empowerment, mother and child health, peace and conflict resolution as well as promotion of literacy and basic education.

Rotarian Adegoke commended the efforts of Prof. Ogen in effectively steering the ship of the College even in the face of the current economic situation and prayed for God’s guidance, protection, peace and progress of the institution.

On the plan by the club to organise  a one-week empowerment training programme tagged ‘Rotary Youth Leadership Award (RYLA)’ scheduled to begin in the College on Monday September 19, 2016, Rotarian Adegoke said the College was chosen as host in order to give it global recognition and to enable its students benefit maximally from the programme.

He stated that during the programme, participants nominated from various local Rotary Clubs across 24 states of the Federation including Abuja, would be chosen from secondary schools, tertiary institutions and private organisations.

In addition, he stated that the participants would attend workshops on skills acquisition where topics such as leadership fundamentals and ethics, communication skills, problem solving and conflict management as well as community and global citizenship would be treated by resource persons from various fields of human endeavour.

While assuring the College Management that the 350 participants selected for the programme would be of good behavior during their stay, the Rotary International DG for District 9125 pledged the readiness of his organisation to continue to partner with Management in the task of moving the Institution to a higher level.

Earlier in his welcome address, the President, Rotary Club of Ondo, Adeyemi College of Education, Dr. Jimoh Rafiu described the visit of the DG as historic. He used the occasion to pour encomium on the College Provost, Prof. Olukoya Ogen for his numerous contributions to the advancement of the Club in the Institution.

Similarly, a one-time President of the Rotary Club of Ondo and holder of the Paul Harris Fellow award, Sir Ayo Akingbule also paid glowing tributes to the College Provost and appealed to him to continue to identify with the club in its effort at improving the welfare of the less privileged in the society.

The colorful ceremony which climaxed with the decoration of the Provost, Prof. Olukoya Ogen with the Rotary Ambassador award badge by the DG Rotary International District 9125, Rotarian Adebisi Adegoke and subsequently group photograph, was witnessed by Principal Officers of the College including the Deputy Provost, Dr. Samuel Akintunde, Bursar, Mr. Ganiyu Abdul and Acting College Librarian, Mr. Akinade Awoyemi.

Also present were past presidents, Rotary Club of Ondo, ACE, Dr. Mrs.  Brownson, Mrs. Justinah Ogboru as well as several members of the club from ACE- Mrs. Olufisayo Fakorede, Dr. Kehinde Adenegan, Dr. Mrs. Abiodun Olarewaju and Ondo City Rotary club members, Assistant Governor Bose Olanusi, to mention but a few.
