OAU, ACE seek to improve relations, signs MoU

As part of efforts aimed at enhancing robust relationship in the nearest future the Management of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) Ile-Ife, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), with its affiliate institution, Adeyemi College of Education (ACE) Ondo.

The exercise took place at the Senate building of the University in Ile-Ife, Osun State on Friday November 4, 2016.

The MoU, which is coming 44 years after the transfer of the College to the University, and 27 years after its administrative disarticulation, and subsequent affiliation of its degree programmes to OAU on October 23, 1991, was aimed at producing a legal document, that would properly guide the relationship existing between the two institutions which has not been in place since the relationship began.

Issues contained in the MOU include identification of manpower requirements of the College, provision of physical facilities and the development of academic programmes.

Other areas of focus are provision of general guidelines for admissions, operational guidelines on matters relating to Matriculation, teaching practice, undertaking of practical’s by students in relevant courses as well as issues relating to final year projects and examinations in the institution.

The MOU also dealt on the issues of quality assurance mechanism, approval of results / award of degree, affiliate charges and other fees.

In his remarks, the Acting Vice Chancellor of the OAU, Ile-Ife, Prof. Anthony Adebolu Elujoba, described the event as epoch making noting that the decision by the two institutions to formalize and legalise their relationship, would go a long way in cementing the cord that binds them together.

The University Administrator also expressed hope that the development would engender development and enhance progress in the two institutions.

Also speaking, the Dean Faculty of Education OAU, Ile-Ife, Prof. Bayode Popoola, expressed appreciation to the Acting VC for his commitment to the progress and advancement of the University’s Faculty of Education.

While going through memory lane, the University don expressed happiness for the achievement recorded stating that the result from available record which showed that no fewer than 300,000 students have graduated from ACE since its affiliation to the University is something that calls for celebration.

On the rationale behind signing of the Mou, which he said was a product of collaborative efforts and inputs from legal unit of both the OAU and ACE, Prof. Popoola said the move was undertaken in order to get a document that would further strengthen the relationship between the two institutions and make it an enduring one.

In his speech, the Provost of ACE, Prof. Olukoya Ogen, described the event as historical noting that the signing of the document would go a long way in reducing friction and enhancing robust relationship between his institution and the University.

Also in his comment, the immediate past Registrar/Chief Executive Officer, Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Prof. Dibu Ojerinde described the ceremony as memorable.

He stated that as an alumnus of the two institutions, he was happy to witness the occasion and expressed optimism that the development would enhance academic advancement in the two institutions.

Similarly, a one-time Dean Faculty of Education and former Member of the Governing Council of ACE, Prof. KayodeAlao in his comment lauded the initiative of the two institutions and commended the Provost, of ACE, Prof. Olukoya Ogen for showing commitment and zeal to the signing of the Mou.

The highpoint of the ceremony was the signing and fixing of the common seal of the two institutions on the MoU under the guidance and supervision of the Head of the University Legal Department, Barrister (Mrs) Olayiola Shittu.

While the Acting VC of the OAU, Prof. Anthony Adebolu Elujoba; Dean, Faculty of Education, Prof. Bayode Isaiah Popoola and the Registrar, Mr. Dotun Awoyemi signed on behalf of the OAU, the Provost of ACE, Professor Olukoya Ogen, Dean, School of Degree Studies, Dr. Gbade Ikuejube, and Registrar, Mr. Felix Eniola Aderinboye signed on behalf of the College.

The ceremony was attended by eminent personalities among whom were Prof. Ademola Adeleke; Director, Institute of Education, OAU, Dr. Adeyemi. Also present were Mr. Olufemi Alabi from the Public Relations Office OAU as well as Head, Information and Public Relations Unit, ACE, Mr. Moses Akinfolarin among others.
