SSUCOEN ACE Chapter elects new executive members

Members of the Senior Staff Union in Colleges of Education, Nigeria {SSUCOEN}, Adeyemi College of Education {ACE}, Ondo, chapter have elected new officers to pilot the affairs of the body for the next four years. The new officers whose tenure beings on may 25, 2016 and will terminate by May 24, 2020, were elected in an election conducted by the SSUCOEN Electoral Committee headed by Mr. R.A. Busari on Wednesday May 25, 2016 at the Olusegun Obasanjo Auditorium in the College.

Those elected include Mr. Liasu Olaniyi who won the post of Chairman having scored 124 votes to beat his only challenger, Femi Ladenika who had 70 votes. Others were Mrs. Ejabena Funmilayyo Elizabeth, Vice Chairman who garnered a total vote of 101 to defeat her closest rival, Fasalojo Okuwaseun Olanike, who score 93 votes.

Also among the list of the new executives are Adegbesan Richard who got the post of Secretary; Tobashe Victor Adewale, Assistant Secretary; Babatunde Enoch Folajimi, Publicity Secretary as well as Ogunbumuyi Joshua Sunday and Aderinola Motunrayo Eunice, who got the post of Treasurer and Financial Secretary respectively.

Speaking while performing the swearing-in ceremony, the National President of SSUCOEN, Comrade Amadi Ngozi Patricia, commended members of the ACE branch SSUCOEN Electoral Committee, for conducting the election in a free, fair and transparent manner. She described SSUCOEN as a disciplined and organised Union established to promote unity and welfare of its members without employing the use of confrontation or intimation of people. Amadi congratulated the outgoing ACE SSUCOEN branch Chairman, Comrade Femi Ladenika for peaceful transition and display of good spirit of sportsmanship.

While stressing the need for harmonious partnership to exist between the new Executive and the College Management, the SSUCOEN National President said this was necessary in order to jointly achieve the mission and vision for which the institution was established. The Union Leader, however, reminded the incoming administration of the need to fulfil financial obligations to the Zonal and National body through prompt and regular payment of appropriate levy. In addition, she also emphasized the need for them to attend meetings called by the Zone and National Headquarters regularly warning that sanctions would be meted out to them if they fail to heed her advice.

Also in his remark, the South-West Zone Chairman of SSUCOEN, Comrade Lere Oladapo, advised the new Executive to shun any act capable of undermining peace, progress, unity and growth of the Union. He emphasized the need for them to pay attention to the welfare of members of the Union, while equally stressing the importance of maintaining good relationship with the College Management, in the bid at enhancing the development of the College.

Comrade Lere also advised the Comrade Liasu Jimoh-led Executive to remain focussed, credible by exhibiting high sense of responsibility in the discharge of their duties. The highpoint of the event was the presentation of all the newly elected officers to the National President, Comrade Amadi Ngozi Patricia by Comrade Lere Oladapo.

This brief ceremony was followed with the presentation of Certificate of Elect to winners as well Certificate of Recognition as Ex-officio member to Comrade Femi Ladenika by South –West Zonal Chairman SSUCOEN, Comrade Lere Oladapo. The presentation of the Certificate was followed with the admission of Oath of Office as well as Oath of Allegiance to the new officers by the SSUCOEN National Secretary, Comrade Ajayi Oluwole Gbolagade.

In his speech after receiving his certificate as Ex-Offico member, the outgoing ACE SSUCOEN Chairman, Comrade Femi Ladenika, thanked members of the National Executive of the Union for their presence and pledged to work with the new executive in the task of moving the association forward.

Also in his post-election remark, the newly elected SSUCOEN Chairman, ACE branch, Comrade Liasu Jimoh, expressed appreciation to the National Leadership of the Union for witnessing the election and thanked members for the confidence reposed in him. While promising not to disappoint them, Liasu, however, appealed for support and cooperation and expressed optimism that his tenure would usher in peace, progress and unity in the College.

The New ACE SSUCOEN branch Chairman lauded the contributions of his predecessors and promised to build on the legacy bequeathed to him. He assured the College management that his administration would partners with them in the task of advancing the progress of the institution to greater height.
