Adeyemi College students elect new President, 120 representatives

Students of Adeyemi College of Education (ACE) Ondo, have elected a new President to run the affair of their union for the 2016/2017 academic session. He is Omosebi Oluwatobilola Insight.  The new Student Union leader, replaces Ogunrotifa Richard whose tenure ended recently.

Omosebi was declared winner having polled the highest votes in a keenly contested election, organized by the College through the electronic voting (e-voting) method.

The election held on Saturday August 20 and Tuesday August 28, 2016 respectively was supervised by the Independent Student Electoral Commission (ISEC), which later announced its outcome.


Similarly, several other students totalling One Hundred and Twenty (120), were also elected into the Student representative Council (SRC), which is the legislative arm of the Student Union as well as the halls of residence. The schools where they were elected to represent include Science, Arts and Social Sciences, Languages, Education as well as Vocational and Technical Education, while the halls of residence include Olunloyo, Oduduwa, Café, Wande and Tinubu.

Others are Abiodun, Kiladejo and Education Trust Fund (ETF) halls respectively.

Reacting to the outcome of the election, the Dean, Student Affair (DSA) in the College Mr. Olaniyi Olaluwoye commended members of the Independent Student Electoral Commission (SIEC), for peaceful conduct of the election and the students for exhibiting maturity. He described the feat as another landmark achievement recorded by the Prof. Joseph Ogen-led administration in the sustenance and entrenchment of democratic legacy in the College.

Attributing the progress recoded in this year’s edition to increase awareness among the students, Olaluwoye stated that their participation in the exercise, through the use of Cellphones, Laptops and physical presence at the College Management Information System {MIS} centre in large numbers more than what was observed last year, serves as indication that the use of the e-voting method, has gained wide acceptability in the institution.

The DSA commended the College Management under the leadership of Prof. Olukoya Ogen for providing financial support to the SIEC and creation of enabling environment, which contributed immensely to the success of the election. He said “ I want to appreciate the College Management ably led by Professor Olukoya Joseph Ogen.  The Management have been very cooperative during the process of making preparations for the election by granting financial assistance to the Independent Student Electoral Commission to ensure that the election was conducted peacefully.

“Again, I wish to appreciate the Provost and College Management for good administrative tactics.  The Provost has been very wonderful in the discharge of his duties since he came, his relationship with students and staff is super and commendable” he stated.

Meanwhile, the result of the Student Union election has continued to elicit reactions in the College Cross section of members of the College Community who spoke on the exercise commended the College Management for sustaining the achievement recorded in year 2015, when similar exercise was organized.

They also lauded the use of Information Computer Technology {ICT} in the election noting that the device has helped immensely in facilitating increased participation and early release of result.
