Adeyemi College gets best college of education ranking, inaugurates student union executives

Adeyemi College of Education (ACE) Ondo, has emerged the best College of Education in Nigeria for the year 2017.

This information was disclosed by the Provost of the College, Prof. Olukoya Ogen, while speaking at the inauguration ceremony held for the 2017/2018 Student Union Executives in the College on Tuesday November 8, 2017.

According to the Provost, he said " Just four days ago, we emerged as the best College of Education in Nigeria. That is the third time running that we are recording such feat, the Webometrics ranking of 2015, 2016 and 2017 confirmed us.

" We are not competing with the Colleges of Education, we are competing with the Universities" he stated.

While emphasising the need for students of the College to be proud of the institution, Prof. Ogen explained that the rain of awards  coming the way of the college from both local and international organisations, bore testimonies to the fact that the citadel of learning has been recognised as one of the best tertiary institution not only in Nigeria but within  the African Continent.

He used the occasion to drop hint of plan to embark on a journey to the United States of America where he said he has been invited  by one of the leading Infomation Communication Technology ( ICT) centre in the country,  to receive an award on behalf of the College , as one of the leading ICT institutions  in Africa.

His words: " Between the 20th and 27th of this month, I would be in the United State of America to receive an award on your behalf from a leading ICT centre in the country, which recognised your College as one of the leading ICT institutions in Africa".

Prof. Ogen expressed optimistic on positive outcome of the America trip, stating that by the time he returns, the College would be the first tertiary institution that would acquire and launch a drone, which would be used to strengthened the capacity of its internal security.

The College helmsman congratulated entire students of the College,  for the display of maturity before, during and after the conduct of the election and reiterated the resolve of his administration to continue to implement programmes, that would put smiles on the faces of both staff and students in the institution.

He assured of introduction of new innovation in the delivery of people oriented projects that would boost physical and intellectual aesthetics during the new academic session in the College.

Earlier in his address, the Dean, Student Affairs in the institution,  Mr. Olaniyi Olakanye Olaluwoye described the occasion as very important adding that the reforms  brought into electoral process by the Provost, Prof. Olukoya Ogen through the introduction of electronic voting ( e-voting) has brought sanity and boost confidence of the people in the conduct of student union election in the institution.

Olaluwoye commended past leadership of the student body in the College particularly those at the helms of affairs during the 2015/2016 and 2016/2017 academic sessions for embracing dialogue instead of confrontation in dealing with the College Management. He observed that the development has brought peace and created awareness in the mind of the students and popularised the statement that student unionism has transcended beyond display of hooliganism in the institution.

The DSA expressed appreciation to members of the College Management under the leadership of the Provost, Prof. Olukoya Ogen for his astuteness and  exhibition of  right leadership as well as creation of favourable atmosphere which enabled the inauguration to hold.

Harping on the need for the newly inaugurated student union leaders  to serve diligently, the DSA equally advised them to shun greed, selfishness or any act capable tarnishing thier image.

He urged them to emulate their predecessors by partnering with the College Management in the task of moving the institution forward saying the step would enable them leave behind memorable and indelible footprints on the sand of time  after the end of their tenure.

The DSA commended all those who participated in the election and advised those who lost not to despair but join hands with the winners. He equally advised the new executives to be magnanimous in victory by extending hands of fellowship those who were not elected in other to foster good relationship among themselves.

He reminded students of the College to be good ambassador by emulating the current Provost of the College, Prof. Olukoya Ogen and his Deputy Dr. Samuel Akintunde and other important personalities in the society which include the immediate past Registrar of the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Prof. Dibu Ojerinde and Senator Oluremi Tinubu who were once students of the institution.

Also in his address after he was sworn in, the new Student Union President, Zubair Taofeek Abidemi thanked students of the College for giving him the mandate to lead them. He gave assurance that his leadership would consolidate the gains from his predecessors and cooperate with the College Management in their resolve at advancing accelerated development in the College.

He appealed to his colleagues for maximum support and cooperation pledging that his regime would not disappoint them.

Similarly, the outgoing Student Union President for the 2016 \ 2017 session, Omoseebi Oluwatobilola expressed gratitude to the student populace and the College management for support given to his administration.

Oluwatobilola, however, charged his successor to shun confrontation but embrace dialogue when dealing with the College Management saying the step would engender smooth relationship and foster development in the College.

In their various presentations while delivering goodwill messages,the representatives of three workers union in the College, COEASU, SSUCOEN and NASU congratulated the students for peaceful conduct of their election and stressed the need for the new  student union executives  to place the welfare of their members on the front burner and join hands with the College Management and the workers union in lifting the College higher.

The highpoint of the event was the admission of oath on the Chief Justice of the Student Union by the College Acting Registrar, Mrs Olufisayo Fakorede. This brief ceremony was followed with that of the Speaker of the Student Union  Parliament by the Chief Justice . The former later performed similar exercise for members of the  Student Union legislative house.

Also in the same vein, the Chief Justice of the Student Union later administered oath on the  newly elected President of the Student  Union Zubair Taofeek Abidemi who also carried out similar exercise on members of the Central Executive Council ( CEC).

Apart from members of the Student Union legislative house, Central Executive Council and President of the Student Union, Zubair Taofeek Abidemi, others inaugurated include Adediran Adijat, vice-president; Isaac Israel Timilehin, General Secretary; Oladoye Dorcas, Treasurer and Olotu  Wole Clement .

Others were Bello Gafar Adedayo, Director of Sports and Recreation; Azeez Michael Ajakaye, Director of Social & Culture; Onamusi Abidemi Samson, Public Relations Officer; Oloyede Aanuoluwa, Assistant Secretary General as well as Oderemi Peter and Faleye Philip Oladayo, Director of Finance and Deputy Director of Welfare respectively.

The inauguration ceremony also featured presentations of certificates to Student Union Executives who served in the 2016/2017 as well as those of 2017/2018 Student Electoral Committee by the Acting Registrar and Bursar, Mrs. Olufisayo Fakorede and Mr Ganiyu Abdul respectively.

Similarly, the event also involved the presentation of Award of Excellence in Student Capacity Building to the Provost of the College, Prof. Olukoya Ogen by the outgoing Student Union President, Omoseebi Oluwatobiloba.

Similarly, Prof. Olukoya Ogen later presented the duo of Richard Adeyemi Ogunrotifa and Omoseebi Oluwatobiloba  President Student Union 2015/2016 and 2016/2017 each  with Excellent Leadership awards.

The ceremony which held at the Olusegun Obasanjo Auditorium was witnessed by eminent personalities from all walks of life including a one-time Acting Provost of the College, Very Revd B.F Adeniji.

Also present were Deans and Directors, Heads of Departments and Units, staff and students of the College, invited guests to mention but a few.
