Senator assures quick passage of Adeyemi College varsity bill

The Senator representing Ondo Central Senatorial District at the upper legislative chamber of the National Assembly, Chief Tayo Alasoadura,  has given assurance of quick passage of a bill for the upgrade of Adeyemi College of Education (ACE), Ondo to a University before the end of the year.

Chief Alasoadura dropped the hint while speaking at the 2017 edition of the Ekimogun day festival held on Saturday December 2, 2017 in Ondo City, Ondo State.

While commending the people of the ancient community for their self development spirit and unrelenting

agitations for the upgrade of ACE to a University of Education, the lawmaker, assured the people that the process leading to the final stage of the passage of the bill required for its affirmation as University is on course, and would soon be completed " after clause by clause examination by the legislators after which it would be passed into law before the end of the year".

Chief Alasoadura used the occasion to give brief account of his stewardship since he got the mandate to represent the people of Ondo Central Senatorial District in the National Assembly. He listed some of his achievements to include construction of roads, bridges as well as provisions of boreholes and health facilities in several rural communities across the six local government areas that make up the Ondo Central Senatorial District.

The parliamentarian commended the traditional ruler of Ondo Community, His Royal Majesty, Oba Dr. Victor Kiladejo and the people of community for organising the event and assured of his readiness to continue to partner with them in their resolve at accelerating the development of the community.

The Occasion was graced by the Executive Governor of Ondo State, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu represented by his Deputy, Mr. Agbola Ajayi; immediate past Executive Governor of Ondo State, Dr Olusegun Mimiko; Deputy Provost of Adeyemi College of Education, Dr.Samuel Akintunde, who represented the Provost, Prof. Olukoya Ogen; Ondo State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy matters, Hon. Lola Fagbemi; his Special Duties counterpart, Prof. Bayonle Ademodi.

In his remarks, Akeredolu lauded the people of the community for their patriotic zeal and love shown towards the development of their ancestral home.

He also commended the traditional ruler of Ondo kingdom, His Royal Majesty, Oba Dr. Victor Kiladejo for complementing the state government in its effort at promoting peace through the establishment of Alternative Dispute Resolution for resolving dispute in the community.

In addition, the Ondo State governor also lauded the monarch and his counterpart, the Olowo of Owo, His Royal Majesty, Oba Olateru Olagbegi for internal security arrangement introduced in their domains, which he observed has helped in curtailing security challenges in the two communities.

Underscoring the necessity of promoting continuity in government, Governor Akeredolu explained that the decision to sustain the legacy bequeathed to him by his immediate predecessor, Dr Olusegun Mimiko is a demonstration of the fact that his administration is not vindictive but is prepared to add values to what he inherited by completing all the projects initiated by the immediate past administration.

On the rumour making the rounds concerning the purported plan by the incumbent government in Ondo State to merge the University of Medical Science (UNIMED) in Ondo City with another institution in the state, the governor described it as false stating that  rather than merging the institution with another, his administration would strengthen  its academic capacity through increase funding to make it one of the best University in Nigeria.

The Ondo Governor used the occasion to drop hints of plan by his administration to embark on the construction of motorable roads across the state. He disclosed that the project tagged: " Road to Market", would involved massive constructions of  one kilometre road in each of the 18 local government areas in the state.

Earlier in his address, the Osemawe and paramount ruler of Ondo kingdom Oba Dr.Victor Kiladejo described the occasion as unique and historic.

The monarch went down memory lane, shower encomiums on his predecessors and members of the Ondo Development Committee ( ODC ) for their vision, foresight and wisdom which  he said gave room for the celebration of the annual Ekimogun Day celebration.

According to the traditional ruler, the celebration of the Ekimogun Day , which began in 1988, has yielded positive dividend as the annual  social event, has served as platform for raising of money which have been used for the development of Ondo community stating that the development has raised the status of the ancient community as pacesetter among its peers.

Oba Kiladejo used the occasion to appraise development attained in the community in recent years and expressed satisfaction that his domain has continued to witness advancement in various areas.

The foremost traditional ruler who is also the immediate past Chairman Ondo State Council of Obas, listed some of notable achievements in the kingdom to include the successful proclamation of Ondo City status in year 2015; establishment of Eki 100.9 FM Radio by the Ondo community as well as the establishment of the University of Medical Sciences ( UNIMED) in Ondo City by the immediate past administration of Governor Olusegun Mimiko in the area.

While pledging continued cooperation and support  to Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu in  his efforts at developing the state, the monarch commended him for the transformation and development noted in the educational sector  and pledged the support of his subjects to the success of the his  administration.

Oba Kiladejo congratulated his subjects and commended them for exhibition of uncommon patriotism towards the development of their ancestral home and appealed to others yet to identify with the ODC to do so, " in order for the community to experience secured future and experience  radical transformation"..

Also in an address of welcome, the Chairman of the ODC, Chief Ope Bademosi  lauded the Osemawe- In- Council and people of Ondo community for their support and cooperation. He observed that the celebration of Ekimogun day, which began in the year 1988, has yielded positive results and served as veritable avenue for raising of funds for the development of the community.

While soliciting for more support for the ODC, Bademosi said the move would enable the community organisation to fulfil its mandate. He expressed gratitude to indigenes of the community who have made valuable contributions to its progress and drop hints of plan to involve more indigenes in the fund raising by nominating ten families to participate in the exercise beginning from year 2018.

Similarly, the Chairman of the occasion, Chief Waheed Kuteyi congratulated the people of Ondo community and thanked the ODC for giving him opportunity to contribute to the development of the kingdom.

While emphasizing the need for indigenes of the community to show more interest in its development, the Chairman  2017 Ekimogun Day festival celebration said through that, they would be able to contribute to the growth and development of the community.

He harped on the need for government to tackle problem of youth unemployment and development of rural areas in the community stating that the step would help in addressing unemployment and boost food security.

The event held at the Oba Adesanoye Civic centre, Sabo, Ondo City featured side attractions which include cultural display; paying of homage to Oba Kiladejo by traditional and honorary chieftaincy title holders; march past by public and private school children and presentation of gifts and prizes to outstanding persons who took part in field and track events as well as indoor games which include the traditional Ayo Olopon and Draught games.

Similarly, the occasion was also used to reward key participants and winners of football, essay competition, debate and cultural carnival organised by the Local Organising Committee of the ODC.
