Members of the Adeyemi College of Education (ACE) Ondo Alumni Association (ACEAA) rolled out the drums on Monday May 22, 2017 to celebrate the 53rd founder’s day anniversary of the institution.
The celebrants, who were led by the Provost of the College, Prof. Olukoya Ogen, who is also an alumnus and the first member of the association to administer the institution since its establishment on May 22, 1964, sang and expressed joy as they move in a procession from the office of the Provost to the Olusegun Obasanjo Auditorium, the venue of the celebration.
Speaking in a short address, the Provost of the college, Prof. Olukoya Ogen, congratulated members of the Alumni association for organizing the ceremony, which he described as the right thing in the right direction.
He also lauded members of the ACEAA for the support given to his administration stating that the tremendous goodwill enjoyed by him from them, has given him inspiration and contributed immensely to the achievements recorded since his assumption of duty in the institution.
Reiterating his determination to continue to meet the aspirations of the Alumni body, the Provost assured that he would not disappoint them.
Similarly, he also expressed resolve to pursue vigourously rapid development of the College by focusing more attention on intellectual aesthetic in the institution saying the move would add valuesand moveit to higher level.
The College Administrator used the occasion to highlight some achievements recorded in the institution in the over two years of his leadership. He listed them to include the establishment of Adeyemi College Television (ACE TV), Introduction of On-line Radio, which has connected the College with the rest of the world, regular payment of workers salary, financial discipline which has led to blockage of leakages from the College purse, leading to monthly saving of the sum of N3.6million among others.
In addition, he stated that letters of commendations received by the College including the one from the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the media publication by the Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP) on the introduction of e-procurement in the award of contract in the institution, lend credence to the level at which accountability, probity and transparency has become a watchword in his style of leadership in the institution.
He said: ‘’ At exactly two years of my assumption of duty in the College, the Senate gave me a letter of commendation for what we are doing here. In the same vein, the Bureau of Public Procurement ( BPP) notedthat Adeyemi College of Education Ondo was and still the first institution to introduce e-procurement for the purpose of promoting transparency in contract award’’.
On the issue of epileptic power supply noticed in the College in recent time, the Provost appealed for patience stating that his Administration is working round the clock to address the issue.
He, however, dropped hint that the problem would soon become a thing of the past as plan is on the pipeline to find alternative source of power through massive investment in Solar energy and Biomass technology.
While pledging commitment to transparency and accountability, Prof. Ogen appealed for continued support from staff and assures that his administration would not relent in protecting their interest and welfare.
Earlier in his address of welcome, the Chairman of the ACE branch of the Alumni Association, Mr. Robert Mayokun Akinkuoye, explained that the event was organized in order to bring members of the association together to chart the way forward for the development of the College.
He emphasized the importance of Alumni Association to institution’s development and therefore pleaded with members of the body to show more commitment to its goals and aspirations through financial contributions.
Akinkuoye thanked the College Management for their support and lauded members of the National body of the association for their commitment and contributions to its growth and advancement.
Similarly, the Director of Development and Alumni Relations in the College, Mr. Yemi Olugbamigbe, described the occasion as unique adding that the ceremony which is the first of its kind to be organized by the association, was done to show appreciation to the institution’s founding fathers and to provide avenue for members of the Alumni body to come together to share fond memories of their student days in the College.
On plan by the association to embark on the beautification of the College, Olugbamigbe stated that the association intends to do this by engaging in flower and tree planting exercise. He said when completed, the ‘’ old beauty of the College would be restored’’.
The climax of the event was the tree and flower planting exercise which was performed by several important personalities including the Provost of the College, Prof. Olukoya Ogen; His Deputy, Dr. Samuel Akintunde; Acting College Registrar, Mrs. Olufisayo Fakorede; Chairman College of Education Academic Staff Union (COEASU ACE branch, Dr. Tope Oziegbe; Chairman ACE and Lagos branch of the Alumni Association, Mr. Robert Akinkuoye Robert Mayokun and Dr. Damian Ademulegun respectively.
The event which featured delivery of good will messages was attended by Principal Officers of the College including the Deputy Provost, Dr. Samuel Akintunde; Bursar, Mr. Ganiyu Abdul; Acting Registrar, Mrs. Olufisayo Fakorede; Acting Librarian, Mr. Akinade Awoyemi.
Others were Chairman ACE Alumni Association, Lagos branch, Dr. Damian Ademulegun; National Treasurer, Alumni Association, Mr. Ajileye; Chairman, ACE Alumni Akoko branch; Assistant National Secretary, Senior Staff Union Colleges of Education, Nigeria (SSUCOEN), Comrade Mathew Olasan; representative of the President Student Union, ACE, Comrade Omoseebi Oluwatobi, Comrade James Taiwo Ayorinde as well as Chairman, College of Education Academic Staff Union (COEASU) ACE Chapter, Dr. Tope Oziegbe to mention but a few.
