The newly elected Executives of the Colleges of Education Academic Staff Union, Adeyemi College of Education, Ondo Chapters on Friday 7th July, 2017 took the oaths of office. The swearing in ceremony was conducted by the National Secretary, COEASU, Mr. Olayemi Olayanju at the Obangawan Grace Ekong Lecture Theatre.
The new Executives that will lead the Union in the College in the next four years will be chairmaned by Dr. Tope Oziegbe. Other members of the Executives are: Vice-Chairman, Dr. R. F. Olaniyan, General Secretary Mr. O. D. Olaniyan, Assistant Secretary Mr. O. E. Ajisafe, Treasurer Dr. M. O. Odutuyi and Financial Secretary Mr. M. O. Lawal.
The Public Relations Officer is Mr. A. Udonsi while the Auditor and Director of Socials are Dr. K. O. Ogunyinka and Dr. R. C. Agokei respectively.
In his goodwill message, the Provost of the College Professor Olukoya Ogen represented by Dr. Samuel Akintunde congratulated all the new Executives and prayed that God will give them the grace to perform according to the expectations of their members. He also thanked the outgoing members of the Executives for their support and show of understanding with the Management.
Dr. Akintunde observed that at the critical time of Nigeria economy, Management needs an understanding Union that will work hand in hand with Management to achieve its vision and mission.
In his inaugural speech, Dr. Oziegbe said he was humbled by the support shown by his colleagues by voting massively in favour of his chairmanship. “You have chosen the team inaugurated today to lead the union to the promised land among others, protecting our individual and collective interest, maximization of our welfare, and restoration of our University status. We will not fail to speak out loudly and stand up firmly for you when it matters by God’s grace” he stated.
He, therefore, called for continual unflinching support that would encourage them to achieve all and even more than what was presented in their manifestoes.
In his address the National General Secretary, COEASU, Comrade Olayemi Olayanju commended the conduct of the election and the electoral committee led by Dr. Ajere for supervising a rancor free election.
Olayanju described Adeyemi Chapter of COEASU as an outstanding one to be reckon with in the South West. He admonished the outgoing Executives to give the new Executive all the necessary support to enable them to succeed. He appeal for all necessary machinery, support noting that the union has a common goal so there is no need for division. He called on new Executives to imbibe the spirit of forgiveness, commitment and concentration to succeed and ignore distraction.
He said, “However your goal is to protect the interest of your members, I charge you to put in your best and serve everybody as all voted for you”.
In his goodwill message, the Chairman, Senior Staff Union of Colleges of Education in Nigeria, Mr. Jimoh Liasu lauded the indefatigable outgone Executives and the Electoral body for a job well done. He congratulated the new Executives and urge them to embrace good ideas from the applicants who were defeated in the course of the election, for they could be of immense advantage to the union. He equally solicited for Management urgent attention to agitation and quest for promotion.
He also used the opportunity to intimate the new Chairman on pending issues such as litigation on taxes in court at Akure, 2016 Promotion letters, amongst other items.
In his congratulatory message, the Chairman of Non Academic Staff Union (NASU) represented by the Secretary, Mr. Babatunde Reuben described unionism as a selfless job and advice the new Executives to inculcate good things and ideas initiated by past Executive and avoid issues that will not promote peace.
