School of Arts and Social Sciences Wins Provost’s Cup

The School of Arts and Social Sciences (SASS) Adeyemi College of Education, Ondo has emerged the winner of the 2017 Provost’s Cup Football Competition, SASS beat School of Vocational and Technical Education (VOTESA) 2 - 0.

School of Arts and Social Sciences, the defending champion, retained the cup for the second year running in a keenly contested football match on Saturday, 12th August, 2017 at the College Sports Complex.

The first goal scored by SASS at 5.09pm came from a free-kick shot fired by Dayo Bello from the left flank of the pitch, which dazed VOTESA goal keeper during the first half of the game.

Concerted efforts to score goals were made by SASS at 5.12pm and 5.17pm respectively. The first was regarded as offside, while the second opportunity was mismanaged by the team leading to a goal miss.

The second goal of the grand finale of the competition was netted in during the second half of the encounter following a pass by Dayo Bello at 6.08pm.

Speaking at the opening of the competition, the Provost of the College, Prof. Olukoya Ogen commended the organizers of the events for executing the programme well, stating that the grand finale of the competition was postponed to enable him attend the event personally as a mark of honour accorded him.

In his welcome address, the Chairman, College Sports Committee, Dr. Suleiman Raji congratulated the Provost on his appointment and inauguration as a member of Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETfund) National Research Committee, saying it was a well-deserved for the Provost.

While commending the College Management for its unflinching support for the competition, Dr. Raji stated that he was elated that the objectives of the sports competition had been realized.

He noted that the games were organised to give the students opportunity to exhibit their prowess in sports and at the same time maintain healthy state of mental, physical and social wellbeing, entertain the community and add colour to the activities of the College.

Besides decorating the Provost with the first Gold Medal, the Chairman, College Sports Committee also commended the contribution of all members of his committee towards the successful hosting 2017 sport festival.

He further commended all the referees for unbiased officiating throughout the competition, noting that there was no major accident throughout the competition.

Meanwhile, School of Science came first both in male and female categories of the volley ball and basketball games.

The fiesta, which began at 4.58pm Nigerian time, attracted sports lovers from within and outside the College. The College Sports Complex was filled to the brim by supporters of the contesting teams.

Olaluwoye; Director, Medical Services, Dr. Ekundayo Ogunmosin; Chairman, Environmental Sanitation Committee, Dr. Rasheed Oloyede.

Akinola; Assistant Director, Management Information Systems, Dr. Kehinde Adenegan; Head, Information and Public Relations Unit, Mrs. Oluseto Olatuyi; Senior Assistant Registrar, Information and Public Relations Unit Mr. Paul Adeagbo; Personal Assistant to the Provost Mr. Ayodeji Abiona and his wife Mrs. T. Abiona and Mr. Sunday Akinmolayan from the Directorate of Postgraduate Studies and Research.
