Association Chair lauds College over Procurement Act Compliance

The Chairman, Nigerian Institute of Architect (NIA), Ondo State Chapter, Mr Wale Adelowo, has commended the management of Adeyemi College of Education (ACE), Ondo,  for ensuring strict compliance with procurement act as stipulated by the federal government in the conduct of its pre-qualification exercise,  held for contractors in the institution. Adelowo made the statement on Monday, 22nd January, 2018 while speaking as an observer at the end of the pre-qualification and tender opening exercise held in the College.

While lauding the institution's management for the initiative, the Ondo State chapter NIA chairman said the process not only promote transparency but also fell in line with the provisions of the 2017 Procurement Act (as amended).

His words: "I wish to commend the management of Adeyemi College of Education, Ondo for this procurement process. "The exercise is thorough, open, fair, transparent and in full compliance with the 2017 Procurement Act (as amended), he stated.

Meanwhile, no fewer than 30 registered companies have indicated interest to undertake construction work and supply of equipment in the institution in year 2018. It would be recalled that the College had in the Federal Tenders Journal of Monday December 11- Sunday 24th December, 2017 edition, invited reputable contractors interested in executing jobs  to forward their documents to appropriate quarters as condition necessary for participation in the pre- qualification exercise slated for 22nd January, 2018 in the College.

The projects which are six in number are classified under three categories. These are projects to be executed through additional 2015 tertiary education trust fund (TETFUND projects), capital projects and internally generated revenue projects.

The list of the projects to be executed include furnishing of classrooms and offices, procurement of computer systems, accessories and furniture. Others are rehabilitation of the Old Administrative Block, rehabilitation of Uncompleted Building (1st and 2nd floor) phase II and rehabilitation of campus roads.

Speaking while declaring the pre-qualification exercise open, the Provost of the College, Prof. Olukoya Ogen represented by his Deputy, Dr. Samuel Akintunde, described the exercise as very important adding that its conduct by institution as stipulated by the Federal Government and Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP), bore testimony to the commitment of the College to openness, fairness and transparency.

While reiterating the resolve of his administration to promote transparency and accountability, Prof. Ogen observed that the positive response received from several contractors from the advertisement placement clearly demonstrated the confidence and trust which they have towards the institution. He expressed appreciation to representatives of two professional bodies, the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) and the Nigerian Institute of Architect (NIA) who came to witness the exercise as observers.

Also in his remarks, the Director, Physical Planning, Works and Services (DPPW&S) in the College, Mr Francis Ajayi commended management of the institution for its commitment to transparency and fairness in the award of contracts in the College. He assured representatives of all companies present of fairness in the pre-qualification exercise. He, however, stressed the need for participating companies to comply with all pre-qualification requirements as stated in the advertisement in order to be eligible for the next round of the exercise.

The pre- qualification exercise had in attendance representatives of several companies which include AB Design and Construction Company, Value Builders Nigeria Limited, Abytech Ventures Limited, Fax Consult Limited and Island Expose Nigeria Limited. Others are Logkeg Engineering Limited, Staunton and Lycett Nigeria Limited, Bytech Plus Nigeria Limited, Tropironics Global Services Limited as well as Golden CEC Resources Limited.

Also among the list of companies present were Lysun Global Investment Limited, Soft and Fast Landing Limited. Other companies that also participated in the exercise include Information Management Resources Nigeria Limited, A2 Nigeria Limited, D-Kolus Nigeria Limited, Honorable Concept Investment Limited, Wins Net Nigeria Limited and Magabat International Limited.

The pre-qualification exercise also had in attendance representatives of Jide Tade International Limited, Eled-Ilann Tizimo Limited, Grande Bricks Ventures Limited, Dafat Engineering Services Limited, Lerick Nigeria Limited and Bili Joe + Berger Nigeria Limited Others present were representatives of Blue Fortune Nigeria Limited, Ramussal International Limited, Super K Builders Nigeria Limited, Civarc Nigeria Limited, Compen Nigeria Limited as well as Sungazun Nigeria Limited.

The exercise which held at the New Centre for Educational Technology (CET) Building in the College was attended by principal officers of the institution including the Registrar, Mrs. Olufisayo Fakorede, and representative of the College Bursar, Mr Ganiyu Abdul, Mr I. A. Olayinka and Acting Librarian, Mr Akinade Awoyemi.

Others present include representatives of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Nigerian Institute of Architect (NIA), Acting Director of Procurement in the College, Mrs. Aderonke Esrom, staff of the institution from various Departments and Units including the Directorate of Physical Planning, Works and Services as well as the Information and Public Relations unit among others.
