Adeyemi hosts seven grand masters of Nigerian History

Seven icons of modern African historiography will as from Thursday, 1st March to Saturday, 3rd March, 2018 converge at Adeyemi College of Education, Ondo.

They are: Professor Banji Akintoye, Emeritus Professor Jide Osuntokun and Emeritus Professor Anthony Asiwaju. Others are: Professor Obaro Ikime, Professor Dahiru Yahya, Professor Olatunji Oloruntimehin and Professor Tajudeen Gbadamosi.

According to the Provost, Adeyemi College of Education, Ondo, Professor Olukoya Ogen, “These distinguished and eminent pioneers of post-colonial Nigerian historiography will be in the College to deliberate on the strategies for resuscitating and reinvigorating historical scholarship in Nigeria.”

He stated that: “The choice of our College for the hosting of this meeting out of several universities and higher institutions of learning in Nigeria speaks volume about our commitment to academic excellence.”

Ogen added that the choice further justifies “our long-awaited and well- deserved university status.”

During the visit, these notable icons are expected to pay homage to the Osemawe of Ondo Kingdom, His Royal Majesty, Oba Adesimbo Kiladejo and hold an interactive session with staff and students from the Department of History. The College will also use the occasion to confer Lifetime Achievement Platinum Awards on the distinguished visiting Professors.
