The Provost of Adeyemi College of Education (ACE) Ondo, Prof Olukoya Ogen
has reiterated his administrations commitment to transparency in the institution.
He explained that his decision to promote accountability in all operations
in the college since he came on board in the year 2014, is a demonstration of his firm belief that public funds should not mis- used but use for the purpose for which it was allocated.
Prof. Ogen made the statement on Monday 26, 2018 when he received members
of the Ondo State Chapter of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) who paid him a
courtesy visit in his office. While expressing appreciation for the visit, the Provost underscored the importance of Public Relations and its contributions to national development noting that the mission statement of the association which outline commitment to transparency, patriotism, integrity, service and industry portrays it as one desirous of raising men and women that would advance the growth and development of the country.
He charged members of the association not to rest in their efforts at orientating the people on the need for them to exhibit transparency and accountability in service delivery.
He equally charged them to abide with the ethics of their profession, by practicing what they preach. His words: From what I picked in the paper in my hand, I read that your association is committed to promoting transparency, patriotism, integrity, service and industry. If we have this, then we won’t have problems in Nigeria. So, I know that this attachment to transparency, patriotism, integrity, service and industry, I don’t want it to be something we will just talk about or pay lip service, it has to be something that all of us need to rigorously pursue, because what we are doing, each and everyone is the opposite of these things that are stated. On what to do to salvage the situation, Prof. Ogen advocated for a change of attitude by people holding leadership positions in the country. He also emphasized the need for the emergence of new generations of people who will be committed so that the future of the country and its
citizens would be safeguarded.
He expressed serious concern about the danger posed by corruption to societal development noting that the monster must be confronted because; we have already mortgaged our future and even the future of our children.
While expressing serious concern about the dangers posed by corruption against societal development, Prof. Ogen lamented what he observed as tendency by some people to conspire
against those that are aversed to illegal acts in some places of work, saying in their attempt at
discouraging those who stood for honesty, they would blackmail or do everything to frustrate or ease them out of the system.
As a way of addressing the malaise, he charged members of the association to partner with other anti-corruption organisations to curb the trend. His words: “We have to confront the monster because the very people that are committed to doing what is right, there is a way they would want to ease or frustrate them out of the system. It is you as experts that can defend the interest of the commoners. Once the press decides to join those who engage in corruption, then we don’t have any future.
The College Administrator expressed the willingness to partner with the association in the promotion of integrity saying, “ Here in Adeyemi College of Education, we are extremely transparent in all our operations and we are ready to submit ourselves to any query anytime, any day. “We are bold to say that, that is what we have been doing since 2014 when I came on board, so I am happy now that I have a partner in NIPR,” he stated. Earlier in his speech, the Chairman, Ondo State Chapter of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), Dr. Lamidi Ishola stated that the association decided to visit the College to show appreciation for the appointment of one of its members, Mrs Oluseto Olatuyi as head of its Information and Public Relations Unit. He lauded the various achievements recorded in the institution since the Provost came on board and commended members of the management for ensuring stability of academic calendar, entrenchment of ethical behaviour among staff and introduction of digital system in the college.
The Ondo State NIPR chair reiterated the commitment of the association to
professionalism and expressed willingness to partner the College Management in their efforts at making the institution a global brand among its peers. The event which held at the Provost office was attended by some members of the executive of the Ondo State chapter of the NIPR, members of the association from the National Institute for Educational Planning and Administration (NIEPA), Ondo, Adeyemi College of Education as well the University of Medical Sciences (UNIMED) Ondo
