A former Nigerian Ambassador to Mauritania and holder of the national award of Order of Niger ( OON), His Excellency, Asiwaju Oladele Akadiri, has donated some copies of two books authored by him to Adeyemi College of Education (ACE), Ondo.
The books which have the titles: “The Story of My Life and Diplomacy, World Peace and Security were presented to the college by the representative of the former Nigeria diplomat, Asiwaju Oladele Akadiri, Dr. Folorunso Balogun at a brief ceremony held on Thursday April 5, 2018 at the institution’s Council Chamber.
Presenting the items, Ambassador Oladele Akadiri explained that his decision to embarked on the writings of the books especially the one entitled: “ The Story of My Life was aimed at sharing his life experience with people so that all my readers, and generations yet unborn, could accept them as yardstick in living their own lives.
Also while speaking on his second book “Diplomacy, World Peace and Security” the retired Nigeria envoy explained that the book, which he said differs from others on the same subject matter in terms of contents and materials, was due to the fact that it was written by a veteran of the Diplomatic profession with over twenty- two year experience and practice on the job.
While acknowledging Adeyemi College of Education, Ondo as one of the leading educational institution in Nigeria, Asiwaju Akadiri expressed appreciation to the institutions Management for assistance rendered during the publishing of one of the two books at the College Academic Press, as well as the role played during the launch and public presentation of the books few months ago at the Federal University of Technology Akure ( FUTA). Akure, the Capital of Ondo State.
He assured the College Management of his readiness to partner with them in the task of lifting the institution forward, and prayed that God Almighty, would gave them the enablement to achieve the vision set for the college.
Responding while receiving the books on behalf of the College, the Provost, Prof. Olukoya Ogen first appreciated God for what He is being doing in the College since he took over its administration over three years ago.
Describing the ceremony as very important, Prof. Ogen extolled the virtues of Asiwaju Oladele Akadiri and lauded him for partnering with his administration in its development initiatives and strides. He described him as a role model, prolific writer, diplomat per excellence and elder statesman who has unparalleled passion for quality. Speaking on reason for floating Adeyemi College of Education Academic Press ( ACEAP) by his administration, Prof Ogen said the step was taken as part of effort aimed at repositioning the institution in readiness for the restoration of its University status. He said : “Yes, we floated Adeyemi College Academic Press, we are the first and remain the only College of Education in Nigeria to have Academic Press, because we think that if we are serious about our request for restoration of our University status, then it means that we should do things the way it should be done.” The Provost used the occasion to commend one of the academic staff of the College, Dr. Folorunso Balogun who also a former Dean, School of Sciences, for the role played in facilitating and cementing relationship between the book donor, Asiwaju Akadiri and the College Management.
His words: ”I want to thank Dr. Folorunso Balogun. He is the brain behind this idea, he was the person that was the go between Baba and Management, he put pressure on us because he felt that there should be a way for him to add value to the College.
Also in his remarks, the Dean School of Arts and Social Sciences, Dr. F.A Falade thanked the former Nigeria Ambassador for the donation and gave assurance that the items would be judiciously utilized. Similarly, the Head of Department of History in the College, Dr. Abiodun Ajayi represented by a lecturer in the department, Dr. Zaccheus Olupayimo also expressed appreciation to the donor and expressed optimism that the books would be beneficial to history students in the institution. Others who also spoke include a former Provost, Federal College of Education ( FCE) Okene, Dr. Ajayi Iyela, who is on sabbatical in the college, the Dean, School of Arts and Social Sciences, Dr. David Falade as well as the Acting College Librarian, Mr. Akinade Awoyemi. The high-point of the brief ceremony held at the College Council Chamber was the donation of the books to the College by representative of Asiwaju Oladele Akadiri, Dr. Folorunso Balogun.
The ceremony wad graced by the Deputy Provost, Dr. Samuel Akintunde; Registrar, Mrs. Olufisayo Fakorede;and Bursar, Mr Ganiyu Abdul Others present include academic staff from the Department of History in the College, among whom were Drs. Adegboyega Ajayi, Gbade Ikuejube, A. V. Omojoje, Dare Alao as well as Dr. Akinbi, Mr. Babatunde Folajimi and Mrs. B.F Owojuyigbe respectively. The event was also attended by staff of the institution from the Office of the Provost and Information and Public Relations unit led by its head, Mrs. Oluseto Olatuyi.
